Topic: Molecular design and synthesis of novel nitrogen-rich fused ring energetic compounds

Abstract: A small number of elemental explosives such as TNT, RDX and HMX are still widely used in active weapons and ammunitions. The lack of new high energy density materials that can be applied in practice seriously restricts the development of weapons and equipment and the improvement of performance. As an important means of developing new materials, molecular design has become indispensable in the field of high-energy explosives. The report will focus on the molecular design and synthesis of nitrogen-rich fused ring explosives and their application in the field of energetic materials. Starting from the introduction of functional groups in energetic compounds, energy storage methods, synthesis strategies and structure-activity relationship, the synthesis methods of various high-energy elemental explosives are explored, and the elemental explosives with different application fields are created, which lays a foundation for accelerating the development of next generation energetic materials.

Prof. Yongxing Tang, doctoral advisor, director of  the Department of Chemistry at Nanjing University of Science & Technology. In 2010, molecular design and synthesis of new energetic compounds were carried out at Nanjing University of Science & Technology. He passed the thesis defense of chemistry and engineering technology and was awarded a doctorate degree in engineering in June 2014 and went to the University of Idaho to join the Jean’ne M. Shreeve group to continue his post-doctoral research in the direction of "Molecular creation of new insensitive high energy single compound explosive “ in July 2014.  In July 2019, he returned China and joined Nanjing University of Science & Technology. His research area:  Design and preparation of molecular creation of new insensitive high energy single compound explosive, synthesis of new oxidant and preparation of high energy polymer materials.
